3 Tips for a Successful Birthday Party

These tips and tricks can cure the birthday blues for when you turn another year older.

Tips and Tricks for Success:

1) It’s never a party without your BFFs. Ahead of time, make sure you decide what kind of party you want and which guests will be apart of your special day. In this case, I only invited my girlfriends for a quiet party. If significant others join, it could change the dynamic of the party drastically or if alcohol/drugs are included – just be aware how some people might/might not get along.

2) Always provide Great Food. If you don’t know how to cook, find someone to help you or perhaps cater the party so there is enough food for everyone. One of the biggest party faux-pax is running out of food!

3) Listen to Music. Always turn on some sweet tunes to set the mood for a party. Whether it’s for dancing or just background music – it’s so important! Quickly search a playlist on Spotify or Pandora if you don’t have time to pick the tunes. Just know that you are in control of the vibe before people attend and while people are partying – it’s up to you!

4) Bonus round.  Lots of Laughter. Keep an eye out to make sure all your guests are comfortable, if they’re not, do a quick walk around the room to check in.

5) Bonus Round. A Clean House. There is nothing more disgusting than going to the bathroom at a party and being sincerely disgusted at the toilet seat. Spend a minimum of an hour before the party to do a light cleaning of the bathroom or any other room that will be used the most.

What's the Scoop:

I usually hate birthdays, especially mine. I find it seriously inconvenient for people to have to take time out of their day, spend time shopping for a gift, and fake smile if they aren’t having fun with a group of people they probably don’t even know. Is that just me?? This year I decided to say yes, and throw a little party for myself because why not. It may also be the fact that I have developed friendships over this last year with women that I actually want to hang out with. Growing up, I was always a tom-boy, still kinda am to this day, and nothing makes me more anxious than inviting a group of women over to my home for a movie and dessert, but I did. Let me tell you, it was SO great.

Coming out of this quarantine season, there’s nothing that we need more than a little R&R with our besties. So a couple days after my actual birthday I spent the entire day cleaning and cooking. I baked homemade gluten free sugar cookies, which you can find the recipe here. Gathered snacks like movie theater popcorn, veggie sticks, loads of veggies with hummus, fruit with chocolate hummus, provided wine and spiked seltzers and let the women do the rest – that is provided the topics of communication and relaxed ambiance. Let me tell you, I LOVED every second of this time together. While we were supposed to watch Mean Girls, the conversation was overflowing with laughter we spent the entire 3.5 hours together gathered around good food and drinks. It was a birthday party for the books.

Where did Birthdays come from?

Scholars who study the Bible say that the earliest mention of a birthday was around 3,000 B.C.E. and was in reference to a Pharaoh’s birthday. But further study implies that this was not their birth into the world, but their “birth” as a god.

When Egyptian pharaohs were crowned in ancient Egypt, they were considered to have transformed into gods. This was a moment in their lives that became more important than even their physical birth.
